Government Dayal Singh College, Lahore is a college for graduate and post graduate students affiliated to the University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan.
The college was run by an educational trust, consisted of Dayal Singh College, Dayal Singh Library, Dayal Singh Majithia Hall and Dayal Singh Mansions located at The Mall Lahore, adjacent to Lahore High Court.
Sardar Dyal Singh Majitha was a philanthropist and a lover of education. A man of great vision and action, he donated all his assets for the propagation of education. He gave almost all his property in Lahore, Pakistan for the establishment of thes college.I was a student of Dayal Singh College, Lahore, in 1941-43 and did my Intermediate (also known as F.A.} there. My father was teaching in Dayal Singh College from where he retired in 1942. My four siblings also studied there. The college then was certainly not 'Muslim' before the partition of India, although a fair amount of Muslims studied there. Also, it is impossible to digest that Sardar Dayal Singh Majithia had foreseen before his death the creation of Pakistan in 1947 and therefore willed that it will be a Muslim College. The Muslim tag is the creation of Pakistani radicals and definitely not the will of Sardar Dayal Singh Majithia.
